Shopping Cart With SuperGlide
SuperGlide technology has evolved out of necessity. Too many shopping cart orders were being abandoned. The primary cause was lack of simplicity and customer weariness. Customers were frustrated by the overwhelming amount of personal data collection required by most shopping carts. Page after page of forms, along with shipping charges that were unrealistic. Then to
top it all off we have credit card gateways demanding more information. SuperGlide puts an end to that frustration. We at Florida Cart experimented with a one page shopping cart. The concept seemed desirable but we were dismayed by the size of the single shopping cart page and popups are distracting. Knowing that most shoppers hate to scroll down a page because that action causes dropdown boxes to scroll and change their selection, we knew there had to be a better solution than a single page cart.
The SuperGlide Solution -
Each SuperGlide page glides into view from the right side of the customer's browser and while it glides in it also is adding to the resultant order. We use additive session variables with "Just In Time" technology. This produces smooth updating in small steps with no time delay. Just as a progress bar keeps you pacified while software is installed, so does SuperGlide pacify the customer because she sees progress. Our first inclination was to use AJAX. However we had ASP code that had been used in over twenty million transactions and always performed flawlessly. That ruled out AJAX. We had a problem with flicker during page transitions. One day I was on Google looking for a way to resolve the flicker problem when I ran across Leon Bambrick's blog about FAJAX. (Fake AJAX at http://www.secretgeek.net/fajax.asp) I dropped the idea into my ASP code and used a http-equiv for transitioning and bingo, no more flicker. Best of all once I determined the delay timing to segue into my next page, I had the speed I needed to make it feasible. Voila! all I needed now was a name. I dubbed it SuperGlide. Seemed reasonable to me.
Non Technical -
It is very important that your customer sees progress while traveling through your shopping cart. Innovative display of each vital step is important because it relieves tension with a unique presentation. Most customers are pleasantly surprised by this unusual but pleasing display. Recall your reaction when you first encountered SuperGlide in action. When we take the customer's mind away from the mundane data entering we begin to solve the abandonment issues. The unique display would be of no advantage if it was slow. By using"Just In Time" session technology we have actually combined two steps with every page change. Yes, the physical page change and the invisible code updating are done simultaneously. There is a lot to be said for code layering.
SuperGlide Benefits -
When a customer is introduced to your new shopping cart technology she recognizes a new method of order taking. She is usually impressed by it. You receive goodwill for creating a new atmosphere for order taking. She benefits by experiencing a pleasant occasion. You then benefit by having fewer order abandonments. Your shopping cart segues into each step without boring repetition. We believe this new technology will help make you a success.
The use of "Just in Time" session technology requires a different server setup and is a bit more costly. We believe the results justify the extra cost.
